Youth Volunteers

Thank you for your interest in volunteering!

You must be 17 years of age or older to volunteer at a construction site. If you meet the age requirement, you can find more information about volunteering for construction here.

If you are younger than 17, you can still contribute to Habitat Bergen in many ways.  See our youth and non-construction projects here for a variety of ways to help out.

Bergen County Youth United is a youth-led volunteer program that mobilizes youth ages high school for Habitat for Humanity to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness. We engage the community with education, advocacy, fundraising and building. Youth United creates a sustainable volunteer base through development of youth leaders who are advocates of decent, affordable housing. Youth United also provides opportunities for leadership including participation in strategy sessions, sharing committees and serving on the Steering Committee.

Members meet twice per month to plan recruitment strategies, advocacy events, and fundraisers.  Volunteers ages 16 and older also have the ability to do hands on construction on our build sites.

Volunteering to Start a Career in Non-Profit Work:

Pursuing a career in the non-profit sector allows people to make a difference while gaining great personal and professional experience. It’s also extremely easy for students (especially college students) to get started in non-profit work by volunteering while still in school.

To help interested students get ahead, this guide highlights some of the volunteer opportunities and details the steps you should take to prepare for and kickstart your first job in the non-profit sector.  The Collage Gap Year
