Women Build Self Defense Workshop

Join us for a Self Defense Workshop on Thursday, January 28th, 7:30 - 9pm at PEAK Performing Arts Center in Ridgefield, NJ. Registration is free, but a $10 donation at the event is encouraged. Dress in comfortable clothing.

The class will focus on self-protection in all situations by learning how to avoid becoming a target, learning how to recognize a dangerous situation and how to drive off an attacker when in imminent danger. Instructors, Susan and Christina, have years of karate experience that will provide attendees with the skills needed to stay safe in dangerous situations.

Susan has been practicing karate since 1998, is a third degree black belt and has competed in tournaments around the world. In October 2015, she won the gold medal in the veterans' division at the Kimura Shukokai International European Karate Championship in Lucerne, Switzerland.

Christina is a fifth degree black belt who began practicing karate at the age of nine, while growing up in Johannesburg, South Africa. She has won numerous National championships and four World Tournaments, most recently in October 2015 when she won the gold medal for the Women's Open Division at the Kimura Shukokai European Karate Championship in Lucerne, Switzerland.

Habitat Bergen will be hosting Women Build volunteer days on our construction sites as well as many other potential women-focused advocacy and fundraising events. Women Build is aimed at empowering women and eliminating the 'intimidation factor' surrounding construction skills and home improvement. This initiative doesn't exclude men, but it's about including women and opening new windows of opportunity.
